GENERAL MARKING GUIDANCE
Accept equivalent correct wording where meaning is preserved. For language questions, award marks for grammatically and contextually appropriate alternatives. For open-ended writing, apply the stated criteria.
SECTION A — LISTENING AND SPEAKING (15 MARKS)
1. Any two: listen actively; ask for clarification; identify the main message; avoid distractions; focus on the speaker. 1 mark each. (2 marks)
2. Fact: a hospital may use digital records to store patient information. Opinion: every computer system is always accurate. 1 mark each. (2 marks)
3. To clarify unclear meaning, avoid misunderstanding or ensure accurate understanding. 2 marks. (2 marks)
4. Any two: names of speakers; venues; times/start time. 1 mark each. (2 marks)
5. Any three explained: turn-taking; polite disagreement; empathy; avoiding interruptions; attention to spoken/non-verbal signals; constructive feedback. Award up to 2 marks per well-explained point plus 1 mark for coherent organisation. (7 marks)
SECTION B — READING (25 MARKS)
6. (a) To obtain and organise accurate information about qualifications, duties and working environments before making a career decision. (2) (b) Any two: listening, cooperation, critical thinking, problem-solving, responsibility. (2) (c) Career decisions should be based on accurate information, interests, abilities and realistic opportunities. (2) (d) qualifications = credentials/requirements/training; realistic = practical/achievable. (2) (e) Informed career choices require accurate information, self-knowledge and useful personal qualities. (2). (10 marks)
7. (a) Any two: accurate, clear, audience-specific. (2) (b) Any two: dictionary, manual, atlas, newspaper, encyclopaedia. (2) (c) To establish credibility/accuracy and distinguish reliable information from unsupported claims. (1). (5 marks)
8. (a) Any two: date, time, venue, speakers, free entry, notebook/contact. (2) (b) To inform learners about the event. (1) (c) Any two: key facts, speaker names, advice, career requirements, health information, dates/contacts. (2). (5 marks)
