QUESTION 1 (Total: 20 marks)
(a) Meaning of "inspiration of the Bible" + two references (7 marks)
Meaning (up to 3 marks): the belief that God, through the Holy Spirit, guided the human authors of the Bible so that what they wrote accurately conveys God's message/truth to humanity — the Bible is therefore both the word of God and the word of man.
Reference 1 (2 marks): 2 Timothy 3:16 — "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."
Reference 2 (2 marks): 2 Peter 1:21 — "Prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." (Accept also Hebrews 1:1–2 or any other correct, relevant reference.)
(b) Six methods of studying the Bible (6 marks)
The inductive method (observation, interpretation, application).
Reflective/prayerful journaling.
Group/small-group Bible study and discussion.
Use of commentaries and study guides.
Thematic or topical study.
Study of the historical and cultural context of a passage.
(Accept also: memorisation; lectio divina/meditative reading.) Award 1 mark per correct method, up to 6.
